Thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Massillon and The Massillon Municipal Court-Veterans Program, a shipment of more than 300 books were sent from the Massillon Public Library to military men and women. Girl Scouts from Troop 60151 led by Deanna Billman and Kelly Bailey helped staff box up materials for shipment. Generous support for postage was provided through a literacy grant from the Rotary Club of Massillon with matching funds from The Massillon Municipal Court-Veterans Program.
The Massillon Public Library is giving our community the opportunity to participate with Operation Paperback by being a collection point for clean, gently used paperback books. Operation Paperback is a non-profit organization that collects books nationwide and sends them to American troops overseas, as well as veterans and military families here at home. Since 1999, they have shipped over 1.9 million books to soldiers around the globe. Books are also provided to military and veterans hospitals and USO centers. They also supply children's books to deployed soldiers who read to their children via webcam or on DVDs!
If you would like to give our troops the chance to escape into a good book, you may drop off clean, gently used paperbacks or children’s books at all Massillon Public Library locations. All genres are appreciated EXCEPT romances. Each library location will have a camouflage covered box conveniently located near the main service desk for collection. Our service members and their families make sacrifices every day for our country, this gesture will let them know we appreciate them.
Donated books of all kinds are also still welcome for our “Trade Rack” and for the Friends of Massillon Public Library book sales.
