SCORE and Stark Community Foundation to Offer Workshop for Non-Profits

The Canton Regional Chapter of SCORE and Stark Community Foundation are partnering to offer a workshop for Massillon area non-profit groups, both startups and existing organizations. The workshop will be held Tuesday, October 9, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Massillon Public Library, 208 Lincoln Way East, in downtown Massillon.

The workshop’s purpose is to help non-profits create and sustain success in a difficult economic environment.   Attendance will be limited to the first 30 registrants.

“Many non-profits approach SCORE for counseling,” said Mike Johnson, chairman of the Canton Regional Chapter of SCORE that serves Stark, Carroll, Tuscarawas and  Holmes counties.  “They have worthy missions and exemplary dedication to fulfilling their missions but need help developing business and marketing plans and dealing with issues such as those related to accounting, financial record keeping and taxation.”

“Among our many grant recipients and applicants,” said Mark Samolczyk, president of Stark Community Foundation, “we see a need for non-profits to develop a deeper understanding that operating more like a business will help them build and sustain success for the long term.  For example, we have evidence that shows that those non-profits that create measurable outcomes and use metrics to track progress against goals achieve increased success.  More non-profits must take this approach, and this workshop is intended to provide a stronger foundation for doing so.”

Workshop topics will include developing a business plan, structuring a marketing plan, establishing outcomes and performance indicators, complying with IRS requirements, and financing and budgeting.

There is no fee for the workshop, and handouts will be provided to attendees.  To register: phone 330.244.3280 or email cantonscore@gmail.com.
